Michael Ott & Samantha Kott.
Congratulations to Samantha Wilczynski and Danielle Kappeler, our 2015 Scholarship awardees!
Samantha (far right)was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of fifteen. She is currently in remission and is attending the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education where she is studying psychology and education. She says that her experience with cancer has inspired her to become a Child Life Specialist to help others fighting cancer.
Danielle (on the left) was a liver transplant patient. She attended North Hills High School and Beattie Technical School for Health Science Technology, and was accepted into CCAC to become a nurse with hopes of working at Children’s Hospital and helping young people like herself. She was a volunteer firefighter with her local fire department as well as a number of extracurricular activities outside of school. Danielle died in February 2016 while waiting for a liver transplant. She received her first one at age six, and needed a replacement. She developed an infection while waiting for a suitable donor. In the process, her system became too weak, and she died at Children’s Hospital. We are very sorry to hear of Danielle’s passing.
Congratulations to our 2014 Scholarship Recipient, Kayla Macey, from Penn Hills. She is a Breast Cancer Survivor attending the Institute of Medical Careers. She hopes to one day be able to help others the way her doctors and support staff were able to help her. She is an excellent student and is driven to succeed. A very brave and impressive young woman!
Congratulations to our First Scholarship Awardees! We sent out letters to all of the schools in Beaver, Butler, and Allegheny Counties asking for applicants for our scholarship for 2013. We awarded 3 applicants last year with $1000.00 each for the 2013 school year. All of these students showed exceptional courage in their fight against cancer and have excelled in both their academic and personal lives. Because of their strong characters and willingness to work hard at their studies we decided as a Foundation to award all of them a scholarship last year. We felt that Jessica would want that. Their names are, Lizzy Dodds, Kathleen Mannard, and Tonya Parks. Lizzy and her mother attended the dinner at Quicksilver Golf Club and is shown above with Jacob Woods and Linda Martin. Congratulations!
